Pirate Joe's

Pirate Joe's is an unaffiliated unauthorized re-seller of Trader Joe's products (we were sued, they lost, now they are appealing). We stock what we are asked to stock by Trader Joe's lovers who don't always have the time (or a car or a passport) to head south to Bellingham (the nearest Trader Joe's). We buy retail from Trader Joe's then import everything legally and add Canadian compliant ingredient and nutrition facts labels. We have to pay the rent and the help (and the label supplier) so prices are about 30-40 percent higher than at Trader Joe's. We also import other brands Canadians are duped out of. If you have a request we can usually get it for you within a week (no cheese - call your MP).

If you sign up here we will email you the day we start selling stuff.

We found a fantastic space on West 10th just west of Alma - the same block as Rufus Drums, Folk Art and 4Cats.  The building was a wreck (you get what you pay for) so we are behind schedule.

July 18th: We Re-open Thursday!

Fingers double-crossed (pirate-style).

July 13th Update:

We are dust-free. Small matter of a blown compressor on the freezer but nothing a thousand dollars can't fix (the price of the chocolate almonds just went up).

We are opening next week no-matter-what!

July 4th Update:

I can't correctly estimate how long it would take me to make a grilled cheese sandwich at this point - but- it's looking like a week or so. More photos!

June  20th Update:

Previous update wildly optimistic. Sign not yet up. We will NOT be re-opening on June 24th.  ASAP is the plan.

June 17th Update:

Sign goes up this afternoon. Like we need more pressure so Friday June 24th is THE DAY we start selling stuff again.  (Nothing concentrates the mind like rent being due (we had three rent-free months to fix the place up)).

June 2, 10:40pm Update:

We are almost done putting the floor in (and the windows, doors,  walls and  ceiling).  For sure it looks like we will be open one way or the other in two weeks or less (running out of money). Thanks for all the emails of support.

As a side-note we are at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal in Seattle on June 7th  battling  Trader Joe's lawyers in the flesh (oral argument).

April 20,  4:20pm Update:

We've added this gallery so you can follow along with our demise on 4th and rebirth on 10th. Rebuilding rotting walls, floors and a ceilings is just plain nasty. April has been rough. Early May will be better.
